Laura Harmon will speak about her work prosecuting internet crimes against children with the ICAC and will offer time for a Q & A after.

Laura Harmon is a Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney with the King County Prosecutor’s Office and also serves as a Special Assistant US Attorney with Project Safe Childhood for the US Attorney’s Office Western District of Washington. She previously served as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for both Snohomish and Pierce Counties. She has been a prosecutor for about 12 years and working on ICAC for about 8 years.

Shamyka Sutton, PhD. will present Beyond Awareness: Holding Space for Supporting BIPOC Clinicians, Colleagues, and Clients in a Critically Charged Climate. This will be a prompted discussion to examine how awareness can shift from just that to authentic action in supporting Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) colleagues, clinicians, and clients within the current political and psychosocial environment in the United States.

Participants will be guided to explore the ongoing impacts of systemic racism, policy changes, social unrest, and heightened racialized stress on mental and physical health and professional practice. The conversation will emphasize the need for cultural responsiveness, trauma-informed care that acknowledges the unique lived experiences of BIPOC individuals in the U.S. context. It will highlight the importance of self-reflection, the need to address implicit bias, encourage continuous engagement in cultural humility, and offer practical strategies as action steps. Overall, the discussion will underscore a collective responsibility to advance justice-oriented practices in mental health care.

Dr. Shamyka Sutton is a clinical, forensic psychologist and Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology with an emphasis in forensic psychology and holds bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice and liberal arts (psychology major). More recently, Dr. Sutton completed her Postgraduate Master’s, in Clinical Psychopharmacology from New Mexico State University. Originally from California, Dr. Sutton and her family have resided in Washington for the last 14 years. Over the years she held several positions with the state’s Department of Social and Health Services with the last being the Gage Center’s Chief Clinical Officer at Western State Hospital and maintained a small private practice. In 2024, she left state work to work full-time in the private sector, where she specializes in forensic and clinical evaluation and treatment services for juveniles and adults. Dr. Sutton has a number of passions but to name a few, she enjoys family time – especially traveling abroad for vacations, personal development and growth activities, practicing martial arts and yoga, and nearly everything Batman.

Additionally we will have time for community building, networking, and (of course) pizza!

This workshop will earn you 3 hours of CEUs.
